Cashing in $1.6 billion from Iran in two days.
"Since the Ministry of Electricity had announced the need to pay Iran's gas debts for 2020 to the government, parliament and public opinion, and these debts due to the lack of approval of the budget at that time," spokesman Ahmad Musa said. for the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity. Has not been paid, we announce today that the debts will be paid in the next two days to prevent the reduction of gas injections, and this is done according to the existing framework.

He added: “Iraq's gas debt problem has accumulated since previous governments and the current government has taken responsibility for it.
Meanwhile, Iraqi Electricity Minister Adel Karim said in early May that the country and Iran had reached an agreement to resume Iranian gas exports and pay Baghdad's debts to Tehran.
Adel Karim said: "During the trip to Tehran, an agreement was reached with the Iranian side to import gas into Iraq this summer, and they committed to equip power stations and power generation units."
He added: "Baghdad owes gas to Tehran and it has been agreed to pay this debt." We believe that the equipment will be well equipped in summer and winter.
It should be noted that the Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Adel Karim, declared some time ago that Iraq needed Iranian gas in the next 5 to 10 years. Iran currently exports 38 to 35 million cubic meters of gas per day to Iraq. Iraq owes $1.692 billion to buy gas from Iran.
If the relevant laws are passed in parliament, Iraq can start paying the debt to Iran from June 1.
