Dr. Hossein Amiri: The Sirjan Special Economic Zone is fully prepared to accept and support rail freight from Shahid Rajaee Port.

According to the Kerman Civil Engineering Organization’s Public Relations Department, Dr. Hossein Amiri, CEO of the Kerman Civil Engineering Organization, during the signing of the memorandum of understanding for the development of rail transport and the launch of the Sirjan logistics village, explained the capabilities and history of this region and announced its full capacity to play its role as one of the country’s main logistics centers.
Speaking about the history of the Sirjan Special Economic Zone’s establishment, Dr. Amiri stated: “In the 1970s, the Kerman Development Organization undertook infrastructure development in areas inaccessible to the government and the private sector. The approval of the first protected customs zone and its subsequent transformation into a 1,400-hectare special economic zone marked the beginning of the creation of one of the country’s most important logistics hubs.” He added: “Today, the Sirjan Special Economic Zone boasts extensive experience in logistics, warehousing, import/export, and the loading and unloading of goods, thanks to modern facilities and transparent customs procedures. All necessary logistics infrastructure, including water, electricity, telecommunications, transport routes, a fully operational fire station, and a direct connection to the railway network, is available within the zone.”
The Director General of the Kerman Public Works Organization highlighted the region’s railway capabilities, stating: “Currently, over 9 kilometers of internal railway lines are in operation in the region, near container terminals and covered warehouses. There are also over 30 hectares of operational covered warehouses, a modern and well-equipped customs office, a standard laboratory, and an independent loading and unloading company with modern equipment and specialized personnel.”
Referring to the events of recent months, particularly following the Shahid Rajaee port incident, he stated: “Thanks to the cooperation of the government and the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, the Sirjan Special Economic Zone has been designated as a logistics village, within the country’s three dry ports and as part of the national program for establishing logistics centers. Today, we are proud that this activity has officially commenced with the signing of the memorandum of understanding establishing the Sirjan logistics village.”
Dr. Amiri continued: “To increase capacity, over 12 hectares of new container and open-air areas have been put into operation in recent months. Simultaneously, over 5 hectares of existing areas are being renovated and modernized in collaboration with Kerman Jahad Nasr.” Emphasizing the region’s full capacity to receive rail freight, he stated: “We confidently announce that we are fully prepared to handle the delivery, unloading, loading, and customs services for goods transported by rail. The Sirjan Special Economic Zone, located less than 400 kilometers from Shahid Rajaee Port, is ready to absorb the surplus of full and empty containers from that port.” The Director General of the Kerman Civil Engineering Organization, addressing cooperation with the Iranian maritime sector, stated: “In this regard, an agreement has been signed with the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Company.” Under the terms of this agreement, the Sirjan Special Economic Zone will be made available to exporters as a platform for empty containers and for the warehousing of goods for importers. Successful negotiations have also been conducted with private shipping companies, traders, commodity owners, and exporting mining companies to optimize the use of this logistics hub’s capacity. He emphasized: “We are able to provide comprehensive unloading, loading, and customs clearance services at any time of day or night, within a maximum of two hours, thereby significantly reducing traffic and congestion at ports, particularly Shahid Rajaee Port.” Finally, the Kerman Civil Engineering Organization’s Public Relations Department announced: “The synergy between the development of the logistics hub, the railway infrastructure, and the creation of a container platform will transform the Sirjan Special Economic Zone into one of the country’s leading logistics, export, and transit centers, and will provide the necessary platform to attract new investments and achieve sustainable economic development in Kerman Province.”
