According to the public relations department of the Sirjan Special Economic Zone, Mohammad Rasoul Jahanshahi added that a drill designed to assess the operational capacity and readiness of the regional fire department—conducted in cooperation with the management and security unit of the Atroud company—began at 8:00 a.m. on October 27 at the Atroud industrial and manufacturing complex, coinciding with National Fire Safety and Firefighting Day, and lasted 30 minutes.
He went on to specify that the operation comprised two components—firefighting and rescue—adding: “During this operation, measures were taken such as securing the accident site, preventing the fire from spreading, coordinating the presence of Atroud company employees, and rescuing the injured.”
The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) manager of the Sirjan Special Economic Zone—referring to the deployment of ten firefighters and two fire and rescue vehicles equipped with firefighting gear from the zone’s fire department during an exercise to assess firefighter readiness and operational capacity—added: “During this exercise, secondary accidents were prevented thanks to the timely presence of the firefighters and the implementation of necessary safety measures.”
Discussing the ongoing conduct of preparedness exercises in the special zone in response to potential disasters, Jahanshahi stated that the aim of these drills is to assess the operational capacity of firefighters in the face of both natural and man-made disasters, adding: “Another objective is to address existing shortcomings; by organizing such simulated operations, we aim to minimize potential damage.”
The safety and fire consultant for the Sirjan Special Economic Zone highlighted that, given the zone’s industrial and production conditions, this drill was conducted at the Atroud company. He stated: “Reducing firefighter response times and the time required for employees to reach safety, enhancing the specialized preparedness of industrial unit staff, strengthening decision-making capabilities during emergencies, and identifying weaknesses while proposing solutions were other key objectives of carrying out this drill at the Atroud industrial and production complex.”
